Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to website operators. Cookies can be session cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (retained on your device for a set period).

GL Adviser also uses localStorage - a browser storage mechanism similar in purpose to cookies - to store certain preferences locally on your device. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is not sent to our servers.

2. Cookies We Use

Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for GL Adviser to function. They cannot be disabled without preventing you from using the platform.

Supabase authentication cookies (sb-*): set by our authentication provider Supabase to maintain your signed-in session. These are session cookies that expire when you sign out or close your browser. Without these cookies you cannot log in to GL Adviser.

Cookie consent preference (gl-adviser-cookie-consent): stored in localStorage to remember whether you have accepted or declined non-essential cookies. This enables us to respect your choice on future visits without asking again.

Analytics Cookies

These cookies are only set if you click "Accept All" on the cookie consent banner. You can decline them by choosing "Necessary Only".

Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*): set by Google Analytics to distinguish users and sessions. We use Google Analytics to understand how advisers navigate and use GL Adviser so we can improve the platform. Data is anonymised before processing - we do not use Google Analytics to identify individual users. Analytics cookies persist for up to 2 years.

Functional Preferences

Theme preference (gl-adviser-theme): stored in localStorage to remember your dark or light mode preference. This is a functional preference that does not track you across sites. It is cleared when you clear your browser's site data.

3. Third-Party Cookies

Some functionality on GL Adviser involves third-party services that may set their own cookies:

Google Analytics (analytics.google.com): analytics cookies as described above. Google's privacy policy governs their processing of any data collected. Only active when you have accepted analytics cookies.

Stripe: if you access Stripe Connect for payment onboarding, Stripe may set cookies governed by their own privacy and cookie policy. Stripe's cookie usage is covered by their terms, which you agree to when completing Stripe onboarding.

4. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clearing your browser's cookies and site data, which will cause the consent banner to reappear on your next visit to GL Adviser.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies - consult your browser's help documentation for instructions. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from signing in to GL Adviser.

To opt out of Google Analytics across all websites, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
